Marilyn A. Blome Managing Partner & Surety Bond Specialist
Even though she is managing partner of NHC’s Savannah, GA. office, Marilyn is a Surety Specialist first. Her primary focus has always been managing existing accounts, but she has a undeniable talent for generating new business as well. But, if she has one true passion, it is building strong relationships with her surety partners. She works diligently with these partners sharing her expertise and helping them strengthen the programs they put into place for their construction accounts.
Throughout her career, Marilyn has enjoyed managing a very diversified book of business, from general contractors ranging in size from middle market to multi-million dollar domestic and international firms, to all the trades involved in the construction industry. Marilyn is proud to say, “The majority of the accounts we work with have been with us from the start of their business, and remain loyal to the agency today.”
Marilyn has over 30 years of experience in the surety industry. Her surety career began at Palmer & Cay/Carswell Agency in Savannah, GA. Here, she took over the position of surety development where she implemented a program that focused on sales and production, instead of just acting as a CSR to the insurance producers. In 1995, after 11 years with Palmer & Cay/Carswell, she decided to open her own surety agency, as the only woman-owned surety-only agency in Georgia. The concept of surety-only opened opportunities to accept referrals from other agencies. Because of her “surety-only” market position, the agency became well-known throughout the Southeast. One year after opening her agency, Marilyn was awarded Emerging Small Business of the Year by the Savannah Chamber of Commerce. In 2009, she became part of the Nielson Hoover Group.
Marilyn earned her undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University before moving back to her home state of New Jersey to attended Rutgers University and Livingston College. When she moved to Savannah, GA in 1978, she decided to continue her education at Armstrong State University and Savannah State University with a focus on business management. Over the years, Marilyn has held various positions in the Savannah branch of National Association of Women in Construction and is still an active member of the organization today.
